Anthropic launched a Claude connector that lets anyone query the Anthropic Economic Index directly — asking questions like 'which occupations use AI most' or 'how have automation patterns changed over the past year' and getting answers grounded in real usage data.

Anthropic has released the Anthropic Economic Index connector for Claude, available in claude.ai. The connector allows any user to query the Economic Index dataset — which tracks how Claude is actually being used across occupations and tasks — using natural language, without any setup beyond enabling it through the connectors menu. Typical queries include which jobs have the highest AI usage, geographic patterns (e.g., how Colorado users apply Claude), and how automation patterns have shifted over time. Claude returns answers grounded in the Index data and can surface the underlying dataset on request. The connector works with any Claude model. Anthropic notes that the Index reflects Claude usage patterns, not the labor market broadly — a meaningful caveat for researchers. The underlying datasets remain freely available. This is a product feature more than a research advance, but it meaningfully lowers the barrier to using the Index as an analytical tool.
