Google AI health coach to use Abbott glucose data

Under a multiyear agreement, Abbott's Lingo CGM (continuous glucose monitor) data will flow into the Google Health app and become available to Google Health Coach, which runs on Gemini. Users will see glucose trends alongside activity, sleep, and wellness metrics, with the AI coach using this combined data to personalise recommendations covering nutrition, activity, and recovery. Lingo is an over-the-counter CGM for non-insulin-dependent adults (18+), available without a prescription since 2024 in the US and UK. Worn on the upper arm for up to 14 days, it transmits glucose readings via Bluetooth to the Lingo app. The sensor shares underlying technology with Abbott's prescription FreeStyle Libre 2 but targets the wellness market rather than clinical diabetes management. Google Health Coach already integrates medical records, lab results, and wearable data via Health Connect and Apple Health APIs. The Lingo integration — expected to begin rolling out later in 2026 — expands the biological signal from activity-proxy data (step counts, heart rate) to metabolic data. Google explicitly notes the coach is not for medical purposes and warns AI responses may be inaccurate. Access requires a Google Health Premium subscription.
