xAI's Grok 4.6 is now in public preview on Snowflake Cortex AI, letting enterprise data teams run the model directly within their Snowflake data perimeter — a distribution move that brings xAI's most capable agentic model to a platform already embedded across thousands of enterprise data workflows.

Snowflake has added Grok 4.6 to its Cortex AI lineup, making xAI's most capable model accessible in public preview through Cortex AI Functions and Cortex Inference. Data stays inside the Snowflake perimeter, bypassing the egress and compliance concerns that often block enterprises from adopting external model APIs. Grok 4.6 was released by xAI on August 12, 2026 and is built around long-running agentic tasks: sustained multi-step reasoning, agentic coding, and complex research workflows. According to xAI, it performs competitively on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index — a composite of nine benchmarks — though the source provides no breakdown of individual scores. Two Snowflake-native products will integrate Grok 4.6: CoCo, Snowflake's AI coding agent aimed at data engineers and analysts, and CoWork, a general knowledge-worker agent. Both integrations are listed as coming soon, so the current value is API-level access rather than embedded tooling. For enterprises already on Snowflake, the practical benefit is procurement simplicity: Grok 4.6 becomes available as another model option without a separate xAI contract or external infrastructure. Whether it outperforms alternatives like Claude or GPT-4o in data-centric workflows is left unanswered by this announcement.
