IBM Apptio launches AI Value & ROI in public preview — connecting AI token spend and initiative costs to measurable business outcomes across revenue, cost, speed, productivity, and risk, targeting a Gartner-cited gap where 84% of finance leaders cannot measure AI ROI.
Details
IBM Apptio AI Value & ROI is a new product in public preview that lets technology and finance teams track AI spending — including token costs from IBM Cloudability — against measurable business results. The platform covers five outcome categories: revenue, cost, speed, productivity, and risk. Users define proof metrics per initiative (cycle time, conversion rate, incident volume) and track baseline, target, and actual results over time. The launch addresses what Gartner estimates as a wide accountability gap: 84% of finance leaders report they have not measured AI ROI, and of those who tried, roughly 60% failed to quantify returns. IBM cited one client that achieved a 50% cost reduction using Apptio, freeing budget for additional AI initiatives. The product integrates with IBM Apptio AI TCO & Usage and IBM Cloudability, creating a chain from GPU spend to token cost to business outcome. General availability is planned for Q3 2026; the public preview is available now to existing Apptio Costing Standard and AI TCO & Usage customers. IBM is positioning this as AI governance infrastructure — a governed, repeatable approach to measuring AI investment value. It will compete with emerging FinOps-for-AI tools from vendors like Apptio competitors and cloud-native cost management platforms.
