Perplexity's Portable Computer AI agent is now available on Windows for NVIDIA GeForce RTX and RTX PRO GPUs with 24GB+ VRAM, running local agentic workflows on a post-trained Qwen 3.8 27B without sending data to the cloud or consuming Perplexity cloud credits.

Perplexity has expanded its Portable Computer — the local-execution version of Perplexity Computer — to Windows PCs, following earlier support for NVIDIA DGX Spark and Linux-based RTX systems. The agent runs a post-trained Qwen 3.8 27B model optimized for NVIDIA RTX hardware, enabling multistep agentic tasks including file analysis, research, and recurring automation entirely on-device. Out-of-the-box connectors cover Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Google Drive, Gmail, Slack, and GitHub. When the local model cannot handle a task, the agent identifies this and requests explicit user permission before routing to cloud models — preserving data residency as the default rather than an opt-in. Locally completed work does not count against Perplexity Computer cloud credits. The hardware floor is significant: 24GB of VRAM minimum limits deployment to high-end GeForce RTX consumer cards and RTX PRO workstations, making this a professional and enterprise tool rather than a mainstream offering. NVIDIA DGX Station support is expected soon. Demonstrated use cases include engineering (GitHub PR review and documentation flagging), finance (cross-referencing brokerage and tax records without uploading sensitive files), and team operations (funnel analysis results posted directly to Slack).
