UMG and ElevenLabs are launching a licensed AI music creation platform that lets fans remix and reimagine catalog tracks, as UMG deepens its industry-wide strategy of striking parallel AI licensing deals—now spanning ElevenLabs, Udio, Spotify, Nvidia, and Klay.

Details

Universal Music Group is partnering with ElevenLabs under a multi-year licensing agreement to build an AI platform letting users create remixes, mashups, and new versions of UMG-licensed tracks. Artists retain opt-in control over whether their music can be used on the platform. The deal extends UMG's broad licensing-first AI strategy: it already has active agreements with Udio, Spotify, Nvidia, and Klay. The same week, Suno launched v6—its first model trained on licensed music from Warner Music Group and BMG—signaling an industry-wide pivot away from unlicensed training under legal pressure. The new platform will remain separate from ElevenLabs' existing Music API and ElevenMusic consumer product. The partnership also covers unspecified 'additional products and fan experiences' to be announced in coming months. ElevenLabs CEO Mati Staniszewski emphasized that artists will be fairly compensated. For practitioners watching the AI music space, UMG's approach—multiple parallel licensing deals rather than one exclusive partner—positions the label as infrastructure for licensed AI music creation rather than a product gatekeeper.
